Local 444 member helps deliver aid to Camp Fire victims
After fires ravaged Northern California in late 2018, First VP Eric Larsen and his wife traveled to the area to deliver supplies. The following is an excerpt from an email they sent:
Hi guys,
I just wanted to follow up and say thanks! We delivered over $750 in Safeway and Home Depot gift cards and some cash as well as new wool socks, underwear and log-john type under-garments in addition to a wide variety of new and used durable goods, clothing and bedding to fire victims in Chico at the FEMA field office in the mall where hundreds of people were wandering around wondering what to do, and to the Red Cross emergency shelter were elderly bed-ridden folks and relief workers were crammed into buildings and a woman in the parking lot who escaped Magalia in her broken-down ’66 Dodge van with her dogs, and to people still at tent camp behind Wal-Mart in the days just before Thanksgiving. They were small things, but all of the out-pouring of human kindness is really all those people have right now. Much of the funds and donations came from AFSCME 444 members. They need it up there and thank you!
